Before the 911 call.
The country was told the house was asleep. The phones were not. The interviews were not. The 911 recording was not.
Hold the distinction. This page does not say they scrolled for eight hours. Dylan’s exhibit shows activity in 6.6% of the window. Bethany’s shows 10 minutes and 10 seconds of 7 hours 16 minutes. Long stretches are dark. That is in the file.
What the file also has: Bethany opened Snapchat at 4:34 a.m. and Instagram at 4:37 a.m. — after the homicide window. She was up again at 6 or 7 for a tooth, calling her family from 7:30 to 8:09. Dylan texted Madison at 10:23 a.m. and Kaylee at 11:29 a.m., used Instagram and Snapchat through the morning, called Emily at 11:51, and told her the 4 a.m. man / Kaylee scream / staring / sliding-door story before 911 went out at 11:55:42.
“Everyone was sleeping” is not a summary of that paper. It is a replacement for it.

This walk
The floor plan vs. “passed out.” Anyone leaving Dylan’s room to go toward Bethany’s is moving along the hall that opens into Xana’s room. That is not a closed door on another floor. It is the room at the end of these boards.
Hunter on the 911 tape is already using that doorway — “Xana? Ethan?” then “Get out.” The first medical frame on the same call is still “passed out / drunk last night.” Those two sentences do not describe the same walk down this hall. Blood in a doorway you have to pass is not a detail you save for later. It is what the “passed out” line is there to keep off the page.
One clock
| When | What the file shows |
|---|---|
| ~4:00–4:25 a.m. | Official homicide window. Elantra leaves ~4:20. |
| ~4:00 a.m. (told at 11:51) | Dylan → Emily: man in the house. Kaylee screaming. Up the stairs. Locked in with Bethany. Later opened the door. Man staring. Sliding door on the second-floor kitchen. Thought they were gone. Went back to sleep. |
| 4:34 a.m. | Bethany — Snapchat. |
| 4:37 a.m. | Bethany — Instagram. |
| 4:38–7:29 a.m. | Bethany exhibit: no activity. 2 hours 52 minutes. |
| ~6–7 a.m. | Bethany wakes. Jaw. Advil. Back to bed. Does not expect anyone else up. |
| 7:30–8:09 a.m. | Bethany calls Dad, Home, Mom. Dad returns the call. Dylan is still in that room. |
| 8:45–11:20 a.m. | Bethany exhibit: second dark stretch. 2 hours 36 minutes. |
| 10:23 a.m. | Dylan texts Madison. |
| 10:23–11:47 a.m. | Dylan: Instagram and Snapchat in bursts. YikYak. TikTok. Texts with Dad. |
| 11:00–11:30 a.m. | Bethany wakes. Nobody else is up. Dylan still in her room. Calls Jenna, then Emily. |
| 11:29 a.m. | Dylan texts Kaylee. |
| 11:49–11:50 a.m. | Bethany calls Jenna. 1 minute 10 seconds. |
| 11:50:58–11:52:46 | Dylan calls Emily. 1 minute 49 seconds. Last Instagram on the printed Dylan exhibit is 11:49:51–11:50:38 — immediately before this call, not during 911. |
| 11:55:42 a.m. | 911 starts. Court header. Caller listed: Bethany Grace Funke. Dispatcher: Carolina Calvin. |
| 11:55–11:59 | Josie Lauteren (the Whites): man in the house last night. Dylan: “pretty much at 4:00 am-”. Hunter Johnson: “Xana? Ethan?” then “Get out! Get out! Get out!” then breathing = No. Ofc. Mitch Nunes on the line at 4:04 of the recording. |
| 11:59:49 a.m. | Call ends. |
What “asleep” was standing in for
| The line | The timestamp |
|---|---|
| The house was asleep. | 4:34 and 4:37 a.m. — Bethany’s apps. |
| The house was asleep. | 6–7 a.m. Advil. 7:30–8:09 family calls. |
| Nobody moved until they found bodies. | 10:23 text to Madison. 11:29 text to Kaylee. |
| 911 was the first telling. | 11:51 call to Emily already has the 4 a.m. man, the scream, the stare, the sliding door, and back-to-sleep. |
| Two sleeping roommates in two rooms. | Dylan in Bethany’s basement room from ~4 a.m. until the late morning. Bethany says she is still there at 11:00–11:30. |
Do not overbuild one sentence
The printed Dylan exhibit does not list Instagram running through 11:55–11:59. It lists Instagram ending at 11:50:38, then the Emily call, then a gap, then 911 at 11:55:42. Say that. If a later extraction dump shows screen time inside the 911 minutes, pin that dump. Until then the honest sentence is: both phones were alive in the hour before the call, and Dylan’s last logged Instagram sits three minutes off the Emily call that sits three minutes off 911.
“On their phones all night” is the same kind of flattening as “everyone was sleeping.” The exhibits give percentages. Use them.
